Characterize It (#1): The Heavy Lifter ("Strong" Female Characters)

The Heavy Lifter ("Strong" Female Characters)

I put the quotations because I don't necessarily like the word strong, but it's the one used by the host, so I'm going to roll with it.

Anyway, I have a few choices (yeah, I'm cheating. Deal with it. xD). Here we go! (I'm so excited!)

Note: These are my personal opinions, and even for some of these, which I won't point out, I could argue against, but bear with me.

Eleanor Fitt FROM Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard
Celaena Sardothien FROM Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Eva AND Addie FROM Once We Were by Kat Zhang (Note: This is book 2, but it applies to book 1)
June Iparis FROM Prodigy by Marie Lu (Note: Also a book 2, but applies to book 1)

Rory Deveaux FROM The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
Andi Alpers AND Alexandrine Paradise FROM Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

  1. If you can believe it, I haven't read a single one of these. Although I own Throne of Glass and it has been on my TBR for months.

    1. No problem! I'm loving this meme, and I'll definitely try to keep up with it. ;)

Revolution is so underrated, but I love it. It's sort of historical fiction but also not. It's hard to explain, but I loved the book.

The others are all awesome, but since you have Throne of Glass, it's such an amazing book. SO much love for it. I'd love to see what you think of it once you read it. :)

    1. Right?! When Em told me about it, I was like, sign me up! ;)

If you do, I'd love to see your pick(s). :)

  3. I haven't read any of these either, but I'm thinking about picking up Throne of Glass :) And if we are talking about "strong" (kick ass?) female characters, have you read Angelfall? Penryn is one hell of a heavy lifter, imo.

    1. I definitely recommend it, although all of these books are fabulous. :)

I haven't read that yet! It's on my forever long TBR list though! (Also, I used "strong" because that's the term Em used in her post, but I don't really like using the term strong to define a character.)

      Thanks for stopping by! :D

  4. I don't particularly like the phrase "strong female character" either, because you never hear about "strong male characters." But I do like strong characters, and if they happen to be female, then great! The only book on your list that I have read is Revolution, and I totally agree with you - both voices remain powerful despite the problems they face. It was fascinating to read about their vastly-different troubles while watching each girl carry on much like the other does.

    1. Exactly! I don't like the phrase, but I completely support the intention and meaning behind it.

Oh! I'm so glad to have found someone that's read it because so few people have (at least that I know of). And exactly! :)

  6. Darn. I haven't met any of those characters. Hopefully, though, I'll meet Celaena soon. I really want to read that series!
